Referendum Exit Poll

Morning Ireland mentioned an exit poll taken by RTE which indicated that 36% voted Yes because the country was being "exploited by immigrants" and 27% voted Yes because there were "too many immigrants"

Michael McDowell has seemingly rejected the poll saying that "people might
have been confused" and "mightn't have understood what they were talking about" (does he mean understood what RTE were talking about or what the voters themselves were talking about...?).

It's ironic that the public crucified the government in the local and european elections but played right into their hands with the referendum.

Even if the public had been a bit better informed and had the good sense to vote no, the odds are the government would have just ignored the result and called another referendum like they did last time.
