You could try a few textless images...

yeah, I haven't been able to dedicate much time to this issue, but it's buzzing away somewhere at the back of my head. as you say, most displays mean you'd have to offer the text as plain text I guess... under the cartoon. but on top of that i think you'd need some way to push the content out to people... dunnoe... there's something in it, but I haven't put my finger on the pulse of it yet! keep those ideas coming!
Let us know how you get on... i.e. would you be arsed going to the site on your phone if there was a wap version etc...
