"Terrorism" by The Presnyakov Brothers

I went to see this play the other night and felt compelled to write a few lines on it. The few lines ran on a bit though so instead of publishing it here I gave it a page of its own:

I wrote it because there isn't much about the play around as it is quite new - I felt it was a comment on the individual's responsibility for the global political climate, whereas a lot of what I read led me to believe that others feel it should be taken at face value as a comment on the terror we visit upon each other. While my view and this one are linked, I feel the production I saw limited the message by focussing only on local issues, and not global ones.

If you are interested, please read it and then comment here.

Really good, if scary, book on American foreign policy. If/when you read my full text on the play mentioned above you'll get the relevance of having this book here!

Great interpretation, im playing in this play in the city theatre in reykjavík Iceland and I agree with you completely on the whole, especially the on the last scene, it is not a dream, it is nightmarish reality, at the end of the scene, when I phone home to see if I can somehow undo my actions and no one answers I end by offering the audience the phone, where can you call...

very insightful. I haven't yet seen the play or read it, but have accepted a commission to orchestrate foliage for a live performance.

Very much looking forward to it now,...fascinated by the prophetic elements, (pre-'war on terror' soundbites)...You may be interested in my band's work,..Kiyomori.

Hi Ben, thanks for the comment, this blog has been giving me trouble lately and so I only actually received notification of this comment now - sorry for the delay in acknowledging!

I'll check out your band!

The piece reminds us that there is terror, terrorism, and terrifying situations in all aspects of everyday life: the office manager terrorising his staff over minor things like the water they drink, and the futility of the company providing relaxation rooms and psychiatrists but not really resolving the issue by addressing the problem (caused by the manager's attitude and behaviour?). How people (again in the office) let small niggly things build up inside them till they "explode" with conflict and deathly (suicidal) consequences. Also the old lady being "terrified" of catching a chill (and the graphic, bloody results of a simple chill equate to the carnage and results of destruction), and the ease in which she resolves the problem by simply wearing wooly knickers. The terror of our underclothes smelling bad, and our lovemaking being inadequate, and our need for basic sustenance (food) controlling everything we do. There are many links and sub-plots in the play that the more you see it and think about it the more you make the links and the more you think. Well done the Presnyakov Brothers.
