Particletree - Dynamic Resolution Dependent Layouts

Its cute but using javascript is a bad idea. If you've used mint (or watched the demo video) you'll see that Shaun Inman was already doing something very like this. I'm still working on a CSS-only version of this effect, but its not going so well (so far - I need some free time to try out a few other things). I've said it before elsewhere, but I think this will be the next holy grail of CSS based layouts.

I think a lot of this stuff is overkill myself, I believe in keeping things simple. But you have to think about these things from time to time.

I love the idea of fluid sites, but most of the time, it's very difficult to get them to work visually. Or have them easy to read.

I think CSS will get there eventually, I mean a lot of the problems are probably overcome-able now if CSS support was standard and consistent.

Let us know if you finish that CSS-only version!
